Hi..I’m an Indian national holding a Indian passport, currently in Saudi on a business VISA..Is it possible for me to travel to Dubai if i have a sponsor in Dubai..If not, is it possible to get a VISA to Dubai without visting India??

Thanks in advance.
I will be staying with the sponsor on any case..If the sponsor gets me a visit VISA will that work out..

Thanks.

admin answers:

If you have a sponsor in Dubai you want to stay with, your sponsor has to apply for a visit visa on your behalf. You can obtain a visa through certain Airlines, but then a hotel booking is required. If you plan to stay at a hotel, you also can obtain a visa through the same.

@Piscis: not true

edit: how to know? It depends if your sponsor will be able to sponsor a friend for a visit. Pls. Ask your friend/sponsor.

Dubai visa – Emirates airline?

Hi,

To get Dubai visa from India, should I travel to/from Dubai-India only in Emirates airlines??

This is my trip itinerary,

Chennai -> Dubai (Emirates airlines)

Dubai -> Bahrain (Air Arabia)

Bahrain -> Chennai (Air Arabia)

Do I get Dubai Visa without any issues?? Any pointers would be quite helpful..

admin answers:

The visa is issued for the whole UAE so you can get it thru any UAE national airline, and enter thru any airport in the country. It will of course be a tourist visa not a residency visa. For Bahrain thru Gulfair.

You have to find a hotel for getting the Visa or go by Emirates or Air Arabia and they would organise a transit visa for 96 hrs. Hotel will give you a 14 days visa.

Richard asks…

What kind of vegetable I can grow in my balcony ( dubai weather) and how?

I am living in Dubai and I would like to start growing in my balcony
What type of vegetable I can grow?
What’s the procedure for that?
From where I can get the good seeds locally

admin answers:

Determine the exposure, whether the apartment faces north, etc, and whether there is a roof.

Then just go to ANY store that sells plants and read the tags of the veggies, making sure you get the one that fits the amount of sun you have. All the directions you need are also on the tags.

No sun, no veggies.

Burj Dubai Skyscraper

Nancy asks…

have you seen the Burj Dubai Skyscraper?

I was wondering if anyone from Dubai or if anyone who has visited recently has seen the skyscraper in person? The thing looks like a monster in photos, like a spear piercing heaven. Is it as awe inspiring in person?

admin answers:

Yes, I’ve seen the skyscrapers of Dubai in person. I live in Abu Dhabi, but sometimes I also go shopping in Dubai. If you see Burj Dubai and all the other skysrapers regularly, you even won’t look at them no more because you are used to them. You rather watch the traffic:))

To be honest, on some photographs they look much more impressive than in reality. But indeed, Dubai has some impressive landmarks.

Take care.

Laura asks…

will a british building ever build a bigger skyscraper than the burj dubai?

maybe even in the next few decades?

admin answers:

Nope~we need money for more important things rather than a silly building,,,,,,,,,,

Mark asks…

If the Burj Dubai (worlds tallest skyscraper) was been built using “slave labour” would you stay there?

“Human rights groups and workers’ organisations say the tower has been built using “slave labour”. Construction workers, mainly from India and Pakistan, toiled round the clock for as little as $5 a day.”

Having been to Dubai, I remember most of the construction workers on building sites were Asian, and in UAE that makes you low paid. So assuming you were in the market for a luxury property in Dubai, would you think twice about an apartment so far up in the air built on minimum wage?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article6974104.ece

Any concerns on the quality of the build?

admin answers:

No I wouldn’t. Dubai has no concept of human rights, fair treatment or democracy. If you ignore the gleaming skyscrapers, flashing lights, Starbucks and McDonalds, it is basically a medieval society.

The slave labour aspect refers to how the workers are treated (they have their passports taken away so they can’t go back home, their free movement is restricted) rather than the actual wage they are paid. Yeah, they may earn less in India but they would at least be free to LEAVE and find another job at any time!

Read this excellent article if you want the truth about this barbaric emirate:

Betty asks…

Does Anyone Else Think Building HUGE skyscrapers like ‘Burj Dubai’ is ridiculous?

I mean, why so big? Its just plain ridiculous in my opinion!

admin answers:

Haha yea it is VERY ridiculous. The sheiks are actaully quite smart though. They know the oil (their only money maker) will dry up eventually but with the burj al arab and the palm islands and other buildings, they will have another source of income. Tourism. Dubai will be the most visted place eventually. Especially with all the new projects like the skyscrapers, dubai land, and the world islands.

I have heard that both these pitches favour spinners, anyone know anything else about them?

Hauritz did well in the first ODI, McGain may never wear an Australian jersey again, Krezja was dropped too soon.

Dubai Map Of The World Islands

Robert asks…

Do you think they will new globes and maps to reflect the new dubai islands?

if i remember correctly the islands can be seen from space. so once all the is lands are done do you think new globes and land maps will show the islands. if show i think it would be pretty cool to see the world (world of islands) on the world.

admin answers:

I’m sure they’ll be included sooner or later.

Mark asks…

Who owns the OCEAN? Does it make you mad/scared that Dubai is altering the globe making it’s own LAND?!!?

http://realestate.theemiratesnetwork.com/developments/dubai/world_islands.php

http://www.dubaicityguide.com/specials/index.asp?id=1034

This remindsof the superman movie!

There’ss no way to make your own land without effecting the rest of the planet!!! Certainly you’re going to effect the world map if nothign else, with two huge massive island projects.

The Palm Islands are the three largest man-made islands being built on the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. They are date palm tree shaped islands are being developed by dubai-based real estate develoers Al Nakheel Properties.”

The Palm Islands are the three largest man-made islands being built on the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. They are date palm tree shaped islands are being developed by dubai-based real estate develoers Al Nakheel Properties.”

What do you think of this?
The World Islands are a collection of man-made islands shaped into the continents of the world, located off the coast of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. It will consist of 300 small private artificial islands divided into four categories – private homes, estate homes, dream resorts, and community islands. Each island will range from 250 to 900 thousand square feet (23.2 to 83.6 thousand square meters) in size, with 50 to 100 metres (164 to 328 feet) of water between each island. It will cover a total area of 9 kilometers (5.4 miles) in length and 6 kilometers (3.6 miles) in width, surrounded by an oval shaped breakwater. The only means of transportation between the islands will be by marine or air transport.”

Thanks for your thoughts and ideas on this…

admin answers:

That’s kinda scary, with all that going on in the world why spend billions of dollars on making land instead of helping people. They’re just making the rich richer. Funny I saw Trump’s name connected to it too!

It’d be different if it meant the Rich moved out so there’s more affordable homes/ apartments for the rest of us. But it will just be another home for them, taking up more space than they need.

Sharon asks…

Who is financing and designing all the futuristic places in Dubai?

http://stylecrave.com/2008-12-16/the-top-10-architectural-wonders-of-dubai/

Look at the “large archipelago of a scaled map of Earth”, the Midgar (Final Fantasy 7) vision of “Business Bay”, the insane uber-Disney World “Dubailand”, and “The Palm Islands“???

Who is planning and building all of these insanely extravagant resorts, that are all obviously boasting the kind of National affluence Rome once exhibited, and US in it’s economic prime?

I am hoping for some more specific, analytical answer than “the sheiks”…

I mean, how much is the actual Gov’t behind these plans?

Are there any huge multinational or regional corporations behind this?

Are there any connections to any “American” corporations mixed in to finances of these future structures?

Dick Cheney bought a property on “The Palm Islands” there for retirement, and many many upper class Americans are following suit…

So I’m curious of which multinational corporations are behind it… or is it a totally Gov’t based thing, funded from oil profits?

admin answers:

I couldn’t find a site for an answer. But the the government, which is the people of Dubai, does have lots of money to invest. An entity from Dubai owns around a 50% share of CityCenter, the complex the MGM Mirage corporation is building in Las Vegas. The MGM Mirage ran out of capital and had to sell more shares to the Dubai group. I think the only reason the Dubai group could not own more than 50% is because of casino licensing.
