Driving directions from Al Hosn Palace Abu Dhabi to Dubai Festival City?

Hi I need driving directions from Al Hosn Palace (Abu Dhabi) to the Intercontinental Hotel at Dubai Festival City.

Can anyone help?

admin answers:

Head direction Abu Dhabi Airport. Get on Sheikh Zayed Road. On Sheikh Zayed Rd (E11), follow sign to Al Garhoud Bridge. Keep right lane over the bridge and take exit to Umm Ramool onto Al Rebat St. Travel 1.5 km and take right exit to Dubai Festival City. Turn left at next signal, following directions to the Hotel.

In the Dubai City Tour…?

I get picked up from my hotel. Does it drop me back at my hotel too?

http://www.city-discovery.com/dubai/tour.php?id=1097

My hotel is Dubai Marine Resort & Spa.
Are meals included in the tour?

admin answers:

All of the City Tours end have the Gold Souk as their last stop. You will be given the choice to be dropped there and return on your own, or to return to your hotel.

The answer to your question – 100% yes.

Dubai City Tour

Jenny asks…

With a 6-hr stopover in Dubai, can I exit the airport for a city tour (I have an Australian passport)?

Am on a return journey to Sydney from Cairo via Dubai.

admin answers:

With having to arrive back at the airport two hours prior, you won’t have too much time (about 3 hrs after going through customs), but you’ll be able to get a little taste of it. I would hop in a taxi, take a drive out to and around Atlantis on the Palm, maybe take a look around the marina, then back to Deira and have a drive around there. I wouldn’t stop for a bite to eat, no time. Taxi’s are pretty cheap, a one way out to the Atlantis will run you about 80-90 AED or $36 AUD. Enjoy!!

Mark asks…

Robert asks…

Should I go into the city on my Amsterdam layover before Dubai?

This Sunday I have an 8 hour layover in Amsterdam before I arrive in Dubai. I’ve read from multiple sources that this is plenty of time to view the city, so I was hoping to take the train in and take a canal tour and walk around the city. I have no intention of going into any coffee shops/smoking/consuming anything.

Now I’ve come across a couple articles where people have been imprisoned upon arrival in Dubai for minuscule amounts of drugs on their person, and it’s making me paranoid about going into town. Am I safe as long as I stay away from the coffee shops?
Based on numerous things I’ve read, I’m confident I would have plenty of time to get back to the airport. I would leave my carry-on in a locker at the airport, so I wouldn’t need to worry about theft. My flight gets in at 5:55am and departs at 2:05pm, and I was planning on taking a train back to the airport around 10:30-11:00. I was hoping to walk around town early in the morning and then do a canal tour around 9am or so.

admin answers:

You can get a day return ticket, second class, at €7.10 from one of the ticket machines, at €7.60 from a ticket window.
The trains leave from the arrivals and departure building, one floor down from arrivals, and most of the trains leave from platforms 1, 2 or 3, but not all trains from those platforms do go to the same direction.
You want to go to Amsterdam Centraal station.

I do not think the Canal tour boats will start that early, but you will have time to walk around and likely can take a tour a little later. Most tour start from the water in front of Centraal station.

Just walking through town you will not be in risk of drugs, just do not buy anything from street vendors, although most are not unreliable.

Count about one hour travel from the center of town to the airport, and count on at least one hour for passport control and security, but if you can catch an 11 AM train the time will be plentiful.

Paris Visit in 4-5 days. Free Only at night. Dress code. Cheap and best purchase and travelling?

I am planning to visit Paris for 4-5 days (by march last or april first). The main objective is a training by a french co. So I will be free only in the evenings to late night. I would like to know, which are the best places to visit and how can i go there cheap and best. I dont know anything about Paris or any EU. What kind of dress i should wear, what are the other things i should carry. I love to see places and take pictures. What is the percentage of people who knows english. Is it safe to roam around the city alone in night.I am coming from Dubai. How long it will take if i apply for a business trip visa.

admin answers:

Paris is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, with 45 million tourists every year in the Paris Region, 60% of whom are foreign visitors. There are numerous iconic landmarks among its many attractions, along with world-famous institutions and popular parks.

One of the best value and most convenient ways to see the sights of Paris is with the Paris Museum Pass (previously known as Carte Musées et Monuments), a pre-paid entry card that allows entry into over 70 museums and monuments around Paris and comes in 2-day (€30), 4-day (€45) and 6-day (€60) denominations (prices as of August 2008). The card allows you to jump otherwise sometimes lengthy queues and is available from participating museums, tourist offices, Fnac branches and all the main Métro and RER train stations. You will still need to pay to enter most special exhibitions.

Note that most museums and galleries are closed on either Monday or Tuesday – check ahead to avoid disappointment! – and most ticket counters close 30 – 45 minutes before final closing. Louvre museum is closed on Tuesdays while Orsay museum is closed on Mondays, good to know when setting visit plans.

Also consider the Paris Pass also a pre paid entry card + queue jumping to 60 attractions including The Louvre, The Arc de Triomphe, as well as a river cruise and allows free metro & public transport travel. Also note a cheaper alternative with this new combined pass available since September 2008 is the Paris ComboPass, which comes in Lite/Premium versions.

All national museums are open free of charge on the first Sunday of the month; note, however, that this may mean long lines and crowded exhibits. Keep away from Paris during Easter week. It’s really crowded. People have to queue up at the Eiffel tower for several hours. Entry to the permanent exhibitions at city-run museums is free at all times (admission is charged for temporary exhibitions).

These listings are just some highlights of things that you really should see if you can during your visit to Paris. The complete listings are found on each individual district page (follow the link in parenthesis).

Good listings of almost everything to do in Paris can be found in ‘Pariscope’ or ‘Officiel des spectacles’, weekly magazines listing all concerts, art exhibitions, films, stage plays and museums. Available from all kiosks.

You can go around by car, on foot, by metro, by boat, on skates, by bicycle, by bus or taxi, (lot of traveling options)

In the parts of the city that tourists frequent the most (Tour Eiffel, Le Louvre, Champs-Elysées), the shopkeepers, information booth attendants, and other workers are likely to answer you in English, even if your French is advanced. These workers tend to deal with thousands of foreign-speaking tourists, and responding in English is often faster than repeating themselves in French. This is not the case for the rest of the city.

Visa application may not take more than 3-4 days.

The decsent people like decency> You are representing your country in France, so be careful and manage to take and use proper dress ( Suit with tie)

SCAM

Fake company – not registered at Companies House therefore does not exist. Good name though Con Oil!

No such thing as a Certificate Of Oil Rig Workers.

No UK company would ask for payment via Western Union, they all have bank accounts. Why would they ever need to use this system?

Western Union should ONLY be used by people who KNOW each other. It should NEVER be used to send money to STRANGERS.

UK employers have to be licenced by the Home Office to sponsor non UK/EU workers and would need to prove that no suitably qualified person from the UK/EU had applied for the job before offering it outside the EU. To comply with this would mean going through a rigorous and lengthy recruitment process and certainly no UK company would offer jobs via the internet or emails. There are plenty of people looking for work in the UK, they do not need to advertise for people elsewhere.

This is a scam designed to get you to pay fake fees to cover visa documentation. Once you send them money, they will come back and say that you have to pay a further fee. This will continue for as long as they can get money out of you, but you will NEVER get your visa and the job never existed.

The sponsoring employer always handles the documentation direct with the Home Office.

Do not respond to them – you will be put on a ‘mugs list’ and your details sold to other criminals.

Do not send them money – You will be helping to fund criminals and possibly terrorists.

Do not send money via Western Union to anyone you don’t know personally. It’s untraceable and irretrievable.

Do not give them any personal details – beware of identity theft or bank fraud. Your identity may also be used to commit further crimes against innocent people and this could cause you serious problems in the future.

Please let as many friends and colleagues as you can know about this scam and ask them to also pass it on.

so please tell me Is this salary is good enough to survive …..tell me salary break down and should I avail this opportunity ?

Please your help and advice will highly appreciated.

Thanks

admin answers:

You should be able to find an apartment for about 70,000/year or so for a studio. Your biggest expense will be that. You can try to share an accomodation, or request that your company provide you with an apartment (which is better).

I don’t live in Dubai, so I can’t help you on finding accomodation. But you can always try to ask your company to help. Some have people in the company whose job is only to find housing for the employees.

Housing isn’t as big of a problem in Dubai as it is in Abu Dhabi, but it is still rediculously expensive.

Good luck, but I would try to ask for more housing. You don’t want to end up supplementing it with your base salary to the point that you can’t buy food.

Advice & Suggestions needed for accommodation + school hunt in Alain (UAE).?

I am looking for accommodation (villa or flat) in Alain in an area that should have easy access to Alain-Dubai highway (to reach Dubai Academic City easily).

I have kids so also need advice regarding some good schools. I’d prefer an English medium school with more Islamic flavor rather than some western style school. I hope I am not already late for academic year starting in Sep 2008.

I’ll appreciate if someone can give some figures I should be looking into, i.e. rents and school fees.

Hi,

Great to hear you moving here.

Well Oud Metha will be the best place for you. If not you could also try Karama. It has a lot of eating joints and malls around. So your options accordingly.

Susan asks…

Why is everything so expensive in dubai?

let me know the reasons behind this. It does not look like a giant city either in terms of infrastructure, no mountains, no greenish, only a concrete jungle. I m wondering why it is so expensive as compared to other big cities like Bangkok or kaula lumpur where things are quite cheap as compared to dubai. Also, all of these two cities offer pretty much the same amenities and things to do and enjoy at a cheaper price in relation to Dubai where weather is also a problem to tackle with. From a tourist point of view, don’t you think dubai should offer cheaper accommodation and other stuff to enjoy.

admin answers:

Nazia, “expensive” relates to from whose view you see things. The reason is that people coming from “low living costs/standarts” countries (no offense please) will consider Dubai expensive while people coming from developed western countries with high living costs/standarts will consider Dubai being kind of cheap or at least affordable.

Take care.
